The Best Time to Visit Jamaica: Weather, Prices and Crowds Through the Year
Peak season, hurricane season and the sweet spots in between: when to visit Jamaica for the best weather, prices and fewer crowds, season by season.

Jamaica is warm all year, with daytime temperatures usually in the 80s°F (high 20s to low 30s°C) whatever the month. So the "best" time to visit depends less on temperature and more on what you care about: guaranteed sunshine, lower prices or fewer crowds. Here's how the year breaks down.
Peak season: mid-December to mid-April
Best for: dry, sunny weather and escaping winter.
This is Jamaica's high season. Rain is less frequent, humidity is lower and the evenings are pleasantly breezy. It's also the busiest and most expensive time to visit:
- Book flights, hotels and transfers early, especially around Christmas, New Year and Easter.
- Attractions are busier, and more cruise ships call at Falmouth, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
- Go to popular spots early in the day to beat the crowds.
Shoulder season: late April to June
Best for: good weather at lower prices.
Prices drop after Easter, the crowds thin out and the sea is warm and calm. You'll get some showers, usually short afternoon downpours, but plenty of sunshine too. For many travelers this is the sweet spot.
Summer: July and August
Best for: families, festivals and a lively atmosphere.
Summer is hot and fairly busy with school-holiday travel. July is also when Reggae Sumfest, one of the Caribbean's biggest music festivals, takes over Montego Bay. Book early if your dates overlap.
Hurricane season: June to November
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, with the highest risk usually from August to October. A direct hit is uncommon in any given year, but it does happen, and tropical storms can bring heavy rain.
If you travel in this period:
- Take out travel insurance that covers weather disruption.
- Keep an eye on forecasts in the week before you fly.
- Book flexible rates where you can.
- Expect quieter resorts and the lowest prices of the year, especially in September and October.
November: the hidden gem
As hurricane season winds down, November often brings settled weather, green landscapes after the rains and prices that haven't yet jumped for the holidays. It's one of our favourite months on the island.
Month by month at a glance
| Months | Weather | Crowds | Prices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mid-Dec – mid-Apr | Driest, sunniest | Busiest | Highest |
| Late Apr – Jun | Warm, some showers | Moderate | Lower |
| Jul – Aug | Hot, some showers | Busy | Moderate |
| Sep – Oct | Wettest, storm risk | Quietest | Lowest |
| Nov | Settling, green | Quiet | Low to moderate |
Whenever you come
Whatever time of year you land, we'll be at Montego Bay airport to meet you, with your flight tracked so a delay doesn't matter. If the weather changes your plans, we can switch a beach day for a waterfall, a cave or a great lunch spot.
